The Corsicana Independent School District Board of Trustees approved Cynthia Woody as the new principal for Carroll Elementary School in a special meeting held Wednesday.
Woody has been with Corsicana ISD in previous positions during her career in education. Most recently, Woody has been at Corsicana High School this past year as the Secondary Curriculum Facilitator.
Woody began the first four years of her career at Corsicana ISD as an elementary teacher. She then moved to Midway ISD where she taught for six years and became the Campus At-Risk Facilitator. She spent time in Hillsboro ISD working in Special Education and eventually moved to Blooming Grove ISD to teach middle school and became the Principal Intern. In 2009, Woody became the Principal of Advanced Academic Studies at Tyler ISD.
A graduate of Corsicana High School in 1986, Woody was a recipient of the Collins Scholarship that paid her way through Navarro College and Sam Houston State University. Woody received her Master’s Degree in Education Administration from Texas A&M University–Commerce, where she is also pursuing her doctorate.
“I can’t thank you enough for your vote of confidence,” said Woody to the CISD Board of Trustees.
Several members of the Carroll staff came to the special noon meeting Wednesday.
“I want to thank my new ‘family’ for being here today. It means so much to me,” said Woody.
“The trustees are pleased to have an excellent leader available in the district,” said Dr. Diane Frost, CISD superintendent. “Ms. Woody will be able to offer so much with her experience, talent and education, but most important, she is familiar with Corsicana and is one of CISD’s great success stories. We are pleased she has chosen to continue her career at Carroll Elementary.”
Woody has been married to her husband, John, for 24 years. They have three children, JD, Tom, and Lauren. JD and Tom are currently attending college. Lauren is a senior this year at CHS.
A reception will be held to welcome Woody at Carroll Elementary School on Wednesday, Aug. 21 from 4:30 to 6 p.m. At the same time and date, a second reception will be held to welcome Mrs. Stephanie Howell, the new Principal at Sam Houston Elementary School. All are welcome to attend.
