The Ranch rocks: 106.9 sweeps TRRMA awards as Nash, Carey Dean 3-peat

Corsicana — As Texas country continues to grow, part of its roots have taken hold in Corsicana. The Ranch had a big weekend, sweeping the Texas Regional Radio Music awards for broadcasting.

For the crew of the Morning Fiasco, heard 6 to 10 a.m. on 106.9 The Ranch FM, it was a third straight win in the Medium Market On-Air Personality of the Year category.

“It’s still exciting,” said Jim Nash, who teams with Carey Dean in the mornings. “It never really gets old.”

As a matter of fact, Carey Dean said, it continues to be a tremendous honor.

“We were hoping to win it again,” Carey Dean said. “There is a lot of stiff competition out there, a lot of great radio stations.”

The Ranch also won Medium Market Radio Station of the Year, reclaiming the award it won in 2012, Nash and Carey Dean’s first year to win the personality award. The station’s home base, 95.9 The Ranch in Fort Worth, won Super Market station of the year, and Justin Frazell and Charla Corn of 95.9 won Super Market personalities of the year.

Nick Jordan, sales manager of 106.9 in Corsicana, said the morning crew has fueled the overall station success.

“It’s because of them we won it,” Jordan said.

The awards show was actually held in Durant, Okla. at the Choctaw Casino, punctuating a weekend in which industry professionals from musicians to producers to record label personnel to DJs came together to discuss the business and entertainment sides of Texas country. Nash moderated a session for stations, and he and Carey Dean presented an award. Promotions Director Delaney Tenpenny filled in as the person who handed awards to winners Sunday.

Station employees were not alone.

“We had a lot of loyal listeners make the drive up there,” Jordan said.

Said Carey Dean, “When we won, the place exploded.”
