The Mike Dickens Memorial Youth Organization is hosting a Civil War Re-enactment Saturday and Sunday as a fundraiser for youth sports in Rice. Displays, vendor booths and battle re-enactments are taking place Saturday and Sunday, and a dinner/dance will be held Saturday night. The newly organized Silver Dems will meet at 5 p.m. at the Navarro Democratic Party HQ at 416A W. Third Street (one block West of Court House).  We will be socializing and munching from plates that you bring so be generous with the sweet treats and wear your best smile.  We will soon be approving by-laws and electing officers and committees so your leadership skills will be needed.  Come and join the Party! The group’s main purpose is to discuss and protect issues important to folks over 50 years young and educate ourselves on benefits from the government and civilian organizations that are available and earned by Senior Citizens and Veterans.

The Hop Downtown - Annual event sponsored by the Corsicana Main Street Program, Corsicana Parks and Recreation, and local businesses from 3 to 5:30 p.m. There will be games for the kids, a bounce house, face painting, a drawing for free bikes, photos in Pocket Park, refreshments, and the Easter Bunny. Sugar Rush for a Cure Fundraiser will be held at Ole Foods Store, 100 N. 15th. Join us for our annual Easter Bake Sale! Purchase your Easter dessert from us and help support the fight for Cancer. Piecemakers  Quilt  Guild meets at 9:30 a.m. at Westhill Church of Christ.  After a short business meeting a program will be presented by Dr. Donald Locke.  His world famous “The Supper” quilt will be the focus of his presentation. Made of 51,816 one-half-inch pieces of over 350 fabrics, the quilt is 67” high and 183” wide.  Dr. Locke spent two and a half years on this masterpiece. United Way of Navarro County will host “Be Fashionable — Live United” at 6 p.m. at The Cook Center. Five local stores will feature their spring fashions, as well as 11 restaurants donating food and over 20 vendors with wares like Premier Jewelry, Mary Kay, Scentsy, Advocare and more. The VFW Post 3366 will hold nominations and elections for new officers for the upcoming year. This will take place at our next monthly meeting on April 4th, 2013 at 6:30 p.m. at the VFW Hall on Hwy 31 West. All members in good standing are urged to attend and vote.



The Blooming Grove Crime Watch will meet at 7 p.m. at the Blooming Grove Fire Station. The speaker will be Elmer “Sonny” Boyd, who will speak about the day President Kennedy was shot, his duties involving Lee Harvey Oswald, Jack Ruby and other police stories in which he was involved during his 26 years as a robbery and homicide detective with the Dallas Police Department. Boyd has some fascinating stories, don’t miss this meeting. Light refreshments will be served and everyone is welcome.

Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 1009 will meet at 7 p.m. at the Sirloin Stockade, 2508 W. Seventh Ave., Corsicana. Membership is open to U.S. armed forces veterans who served on active duty (for other than training purposes) in the Republic of Vietnam between Feb. 28,1961 and May 7,1975, or in ANY duty location between Aug. 5,1964 and May 7,1975. The veteran must submit a copy of his/her DD Form 214 along with the application and dues. Members and guest are invited to come early and eat and visit prior to the meeting.

The Second Annual Richland Craft and Vendor Fair will be held at 103 W Main St., Civic Center, Richland. A portion of the table rental proceeds will go to the volunteer fire department. Navarro College Multimedia Department presents Media Fest 2013, to be held at 10 a.m. at the Cook Center Planetarium at Navarro College. This is a great opportunity to see the best work produced by our multimedia students during the last year. Mystery Art in Tuckertown is a silent auction and reception featuring local artists. This fundraiser supports the efforts of both the Navarro Council of the Arts and VOICE. “Pillars of our Past, Celebrating the people, places, and events in Navarro County History”  will be the theme this year. Mystery Art in Tuckertown will feature 8 x 10 art work with silent bids starting at $35. The art will be on display at the Warehouse Living Arts Center April 17-26. There will be a reception with food and drinks which will feature the artwork from 5:30 to 7 p.m. April 25 at the Warehouse Living Arts Center, 119 W.  Sixth Ave. Artist’s names will be revealed at the end of the auction.
