AgriLife honors senior volunteers at annual reception

Corsicana — The Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Family and Consumer Sciences Committee presented certificates of appreciation to the outstanding volunteers during the 42nd Annual Navarro County Senior Texan Volunteer Recognition on Thursday at the Corsicana Public Library.

Volunteers are among the most valuable assets of the agencies, businesses, and churches in Navarro County. National statistics reflect the tremendous impact Texans make statewide through giving back to their communities. The Corporation for National and Community Service data report impressive figures about volunteerism in Texas. The state averages an annual volunteer rate of 4 million individuals with 25 percent of the population contributing over 560 hours of service per year. The time Texans individually contribute to volunteering averages 31.6 hours and is valued at greater than eleven billion dollars.

Texas AgriLife annually recognizes the contributions of seniors in May, which is Older American’s Month, because of the impact that senior volunteers have on the agencies within Navarro County.
