Corsicana — A small boy who shot himself in the head with a handgun Wednesday night has died.
The Dallas Medical Examineers office notified Corsicana Police of the death late Wednesday night. Tthe Dallas Medical Examiner's office has identified the child as Kinsler Allen Davis.
Police were called to a home in the 300 block of North 30th Street just before 9 p.m. Wednesday, after the child's father called 9-1-1 and told dispatchers that his child had shot himself in the head.
Bratton said physical evidence in the case indicates the shooting was accidental when the child found a handgun inside a bedroom and then discharged it, striking himself in the head. Bratton said the child's father was reported to have been in another room of the hosue, and no one else was home at the time of the shooting.
The child, just shy of his 3rd birthday, was taken to Navarro Regional Hospital by Corsicana EMS personnel, then was transported by air ambulance to Children's Medical Center in Dallas.
Bratton said detectives are still investigating the incident, and will present their findings to the Navarro County District Attorney.
