State Representative Byron Cook will be the featured speaker at a meeting of the Navarro County Republican Women. Social time and lunch begin at 11:30 followed by the meeting and program beginning promptly at noonat the Republican Headquarters, 111-B West Thirrd Ave. Rep. Oak Valley Crime Watch invites you to attend meetings, which are held the first Tuesday of every month at 6:30 p.m. at the Oak Valley Community Center. Everyone is welcome to join the April 1st meeting. Bring a friend, a neighbor or whomever you would like along with your favorite dish. We serve dinner pot luck style and talk about our community at large.

United Way of Navarro County is presenting a fundraising Style Show and Expo from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Cook Center at Navarro College. Tickets are $20 per person, or a VIP table of 8 is available for $250. The style show will feature fashions from several local merchants, and food samples will be provided from a variety of local restaurants. Piecemakers’ Quilt Guild of Corsicana will meet at 9:30 a.m. for fellowship and refreshments. Business meeting starts at 10 a.m. The April meeting will be led by Nancy Kemp. The guild will have a Quilts of Valor workshop. This workshop is devoted to making quilts for veterans who were wounded in war. Guild meetings are held at the Westhill Church of Christ. Membership is open to U.S. armed forces veterans who served on active duty (for other than training purposes) in the Republic of Vietnam between Feb. 28,1961 and May 7,1975, or in any duty location between Aug. 5,1964 and May 7,1975. The Hop Downtown – Annual event sponsored by our local businesses,  Corsicana Main Street Program, and Corsicana Parks and Recreation. There will be games for the kids, a bounce house, face painting, a drawing for bicycles and Easter baskets, photos in Pocket Park (2 – 4 x 6 photos for $15,) refreshments, and of course the star of the day… the Easter Bunny, who will be visiting with children and passing out Easter eggs and goodies. 3:30 – 5:30 p.m. (Weather permitting.) When Are We Going Home Ministry and Break N Free Camp presents the Riding High Horsemanship Program to be held at 4719 NE CR 1040 in Rice. Call for directions and to RSVP to (903) 422-6120 (to get an accurate count). This event is free and open to all medically challenged, special needs and disabled children and foster children and their immediate siblings up to the age of 21. Lunch will be provided, just bring lawn chairs, yourself and your family. A handicapped ramp is available, as well as side/front walkers, and a playground. The event will include riding, saddling, safety, feeding and care of horses, and a short devotion.



April 25

The Second Annual Oil Baron’s Ball will be from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. at The Corsicana Opry & Event Center at 205 East Fifth Avenue in downtown Corsicana. This unique event will feature fine food, live music by the Phares Corder Orchestra, and dancing. Valet parking will be available to the guests. Attire is “boots & suits” for gentlemen and cocktail attire for ladies. Tickets are $150 per person or tables of 6 for $1,000 (limited seating). The Navarro County Derrick Days Pro Rodeo is scheduled for April 25-26 at the Navarro County Exposition Center. Gates  will open at 6 p.m., mutton bustin’ starts at 7 and the rodeo starts at 8. Adult tickets (13-up) are $10, children (6-12) are $5 and 6-under are free. Presale adult tickets are $7, call VLK Productions at 903-654-1653 or 817-239-4053 for more information. Corsicana Parks and Recreation Department presents Biker Bash III/Poker Run with kickstands up at 10 a.m. This 100-miles tri-county ride will begin at the Corsicana Government Center, and end at OT’s Sports Bar and Grill. Registration is 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. at the gate the day of, or you may pre-register by calling (903) 654-4874. Your registration fee ($20 pre, $25 at the gate) will include the poker hand, T-shirt, lunch, and entry for the bike show and contests. There will be a tattoo contest, bike show, 50/50 drawing and more.

G.W. Jackson Heritage Rodeo will begin at 7 p.m. at the Navarro County Exposition Center. This pro rodeo still needs sponsorships. All funds raised will go toward construction of the G.W.
