James Michael Van Delden is the first baby of the year born at Navarro Regional Hospital.
The 7-pound, seven-ounce, 20-inch long infant was born to Stuart and Winzer Van Delden of Corsicana at 8:47 p.m. Wednesday.
“He wasn’t due for another two weeks, so we didn’t think about it as a possibility,” explained Stuart Van Delden, a pharmacist at H-E-B. “We got up there and there was no one else in labor. What are the odds?”
Winzer, who’s a community volunteer and about to launch her new career as a stay-at-home mom, is tired but doing well, Stuart said. This is their first child.
“We’re excited and scared and all those things,” Stuart said. “We’re looking forward to it.”
The couple received a gift basket from the hospital, and of course, a pretty memorable story.
“We figure this kid will probably have the best birthday party for the rest of his life,” Stuart said, laughing. “Fireworks every year.”
