The Corsicana City Council’s first meeting of the new year had only one agenda item.
Council members approved authorizing a local funding agreement with the Texas Department of Transportation for work on East Highway 31 at the Pactiv plant.
The council action approves the use of approximately $200,000 of a state grant to pay for the addition of a 600-foot deceleration lane for eastbound traffic on Highway 31 in the vicinity of the plant.
The work is in support of the expansion project at Pactiv, and is being funded through part of a $1.25 million infrastructure grant the state awarded to the city in support of the expansion, explained Connie Standridge, Corsicana city manager.
“It lays out the rules for the construction of the deceleration lane for the benefit of Pactiv,” Standridge said. The agreement spells out specific responsibilities for the completion of the work and allows for the funds to be paid from the Texas Capital Fund Grant.
The largest part of the grant — about $800,000 — went toward electrical service upgrades. Work on improving some county roads in the vicinity of the plant is also a part of the grant, Standridge said.
