Corsicana — Friends and neighbors of the late Bobby “Scooter” Dunn will gather this Saturday from 11 to 3 p.m. at Phillips Tire, 812 NE Second (Hwy 31) in Kerens to honor their buddy and help his family by raising some money.

Dunn, most recently of Trinidad, was working in Corpus Christi when he was injured from falling through a skylight on a roof he was repairing. He passed away March 4, 2013 after being hospitalized for his injuries.

Dunn left behind a wife, Ginger, and three children.

“He was a well-liked guy, a good person,” said friend and benefit organizer Eric Phillips of Kerens. “He had over 600 people at his funeral. He was an outdoorsman, who loved to fish and hunt, but really loved his family too.”

A fish fry with plates going for $6 each (with hot dogs for those who prefer) will be accompanied by live music performed by the Sloane McCain Band, a bounce house for kids, and a silent auction. There will be a raffle for a flat screen TV. A poker tournament to start at 3:30 p.m. has already sold out all the spots.

“The money raised at this benefit will help his family with expenses,” Phillips said. “I don’t think he had insurance.”

Scooter Dunn was 33 years old.
