The  Kinsloe House Auditing Committee, headed by Jan Noblett, with Seley Fuller, Ruth Scott, and Arlene Stewart will have its program at Kinsloe House at 12 noon. Members who attend will go on a trip to the ancient kingdoms.  Sandra Curtis and Arliss Watson will bring travel highlights, collected souvenirs, and pictures from their exotic and colorful trip to the Orient — Thailand, Laos, Viet Nam, and Cambodia.  This should be a wonderful presentation for all to see. The Corsicana Newcomers' Club invites you to attend our kick-off meeting for 2013 at the Kinsloe House at 11 a.m.  What a great way to start the New Year by enjoying the company of new friends at the Installation of Officers luncheon!  Call Marge Oslick at  (903) 872-3508  for more information and confirmed reservations.

Navarro Regional Hospital’s Senior Circle Lunch and Learn will conclude it’s three-part dental series from 1 to 2 p.m. in the hospital classrooms. Dr. Justin Wright, DDS, will expound upon “New Teeth for a lifetime: Say goodbye to floppy dentures, teeth in bad repair, and get ready for a brand new smile that doesn’t move or come out!” Light snacks will be served. Corsicana Children’s Company creative dramatics and acting classes for Grades 6-8 and 9-12 will begin on Thursday, Jan. 24 for a 10-week session. No experience is necessary.  Students will learn to navigate through the creative process while developing solid acting skills. pantomime, improvisation, timing, and character development. This exploration will bring new depths to their performances. At the end of the semester the students will present a showcase performance for friends and family! Classes are held at the Warehouse Living Arts Center, 119 W 6th Avenue in downtown Corsicana. Call (903) 872-5421 for registration information.

  • YMCA warns against woman fraudulently soliciting funds

    A woman has been soliciting funds, falsely portraying herself as representing the YMCA, Executive Director Terry Seth reported late Wednesday afternoon. A business owner in town informed Seth a lady solicited his business, saying she was raising money for the YMCA for a program for deaf children. Seth says the YMCA does not have such a program.

  • Wine and walking

    About a dozen local businesses are opening their doors for the Derrick Days Wine and Cheese stroll this year, and many are only doing it as an open house opportunity.

    The stroll is scheduled for 5 to 7 p.m. April 24 in downtown Corsicana. It's free and open to the public.

    In April 2013, the city of West was forever changed after an explosion at a fertilizer plant killed 15 people and altered the landscape of the tiny Texas town. A year after that deadly blast, the city will stop to remember that fateful day and pay tribute to those who were lost, including Navarro County firefighter Perry Calvin, one of the first responders killed by the blast.

  • Navarro College seeks public input at Town Hall event

    Community perception of the role Navarro College plays, and how it can better serve Corsicana and Navarro County is the goal of a Town Hall meeting called at the college for Monday, April 21. The town hall presentation will run from 6 to 7:30 p.m. in the Dr. Richard M. Sanchez Library on the Corsicana campus.

    After the hail storm Monday, the Corsicana Police Department began receiving several calls from citizens reporting roofing contractors going door to door soliciting to inspect and repair roofs from possible hail damage.
