Habitat for Humanity set for ‘Meat ‘n Skeet’

Corsicana — Friday night “meat” and Saturday fun are on tap next weekend as Habitat for Humanity of Navarro County hosts its annual “Meat ‘N Skeet” fundraiser.

Held at Upland Bird Country, the event is the largest fundraiser for the ministry that helps put partner families that might not otherwise qualify in a brand new home that they own.

Friday’s steak dinner starts at 6:30 p.m. and features a live and silent auction along with live entertainment. Among the auction items to be featured are a Custom Craft trailer and a custom-made smoker.

Tickets for the Friday night meal and acution are $40 per person, and sponsors for the dinner include Affordable Catering, Thyme and Elegance and Springerhill Ranch.

Saturday’s skeet shooting event starts with registration at 7 a.m. and shooting starting at 8.

And, the event features a bit of a twist as well, with those who wish to donate but not shoot given the opportunity to sponser a team from law enforcement to take part in the competiton, said Dr. Bob Kingman, one of Habitat for Humanity of Navarro County’s founding members.

Prizes offered in the skeet shoot include a tower shoot for four at Upland Bird Country to the first place team; a new shotgun for each shooter as second place; and a new gun case for each shooter on the third-place team.

Team entry fee for the skeet shoot is $200 for a two-person team. Targets and one box of ammo — .12 gauge or .20 guage only — are provided for each shooter. Teams will also enjoy breakfast and lunch during the Saturday event.
