‘Texas Night Out’ event set for Tuesday

From Staff Reports
Corsicana Daily Sun

Corsicana — One night each year is designated as Texas Night Out where citizens promote crime deterrence. Citizens come together to get to know each other and meet and greet local emergency responders and community representatives to build a partnership for the betterment of the community.

This is a night for Corsicana to stand together to promote awareness, safety and crime prevention. This year’s event will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 1 from 5:30 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. at Jester Park Pavilion on North 19th Street by Jester Park Pool.

Everyone is encouraged to come out and enjoy free hot dogs, drinks, and chips. It is a day set aside for communities to support crime prevention and meet some of your local dedicated emergency service employees.

Be sure and bring the kids because there will be plenty of fun activities for them.  K9 Officer Kenneth Darby will have his police dog Dina for all to see. The Corsicana Police Department will also be having a free drawing to give away bicycles to some lucky children. A large inflatable slide will be available for the kids to play on.

October is also Fire Prevention Month and the Corsicana Fire Department will have a fire truck at the event. Representatives from the Child Advocacy Center will be there to pass out child safety information and to answer your questions.  Impact Navarro County, a nonprofit organization promoting drug and alcohol prevention, will also have plenty of free information available. The Corsicana Animal Shelter will be there so you can bring home a new dog or cat that will bring joy to your family. Representatives from Navarro Regional Hospital will also be on hand distributing healthcare information. Volunteers from Applebee’s and Chili’s will also be at the event.

Don’t miss this opportunity to come out and meet the first responders and community advocates that make a difference in all of our lives.

If you have any questions about Texas Night Out, please contact Officer James Hudson at 903-654-4900.
