The Homecoming tradition of 80 Bites Around the World returns this Friday from 5:30 to 7 p.m. in the Corsicana High School commons. Tickets are $5 and are good for 20 servings, according to Misty Fletes, junior sponsor.
Eighty Bites is a fundraiser hosted by the 11th graders at the high school to help pay for the junior/senior prom in the spring. The parents of juniors cook up huge amounts of their favorite dishes and serve them up in small portions, or “bites.”
This year’s options will include sweet and sour meatballs, barbecue sliders, chicken spaghetti, Chinese sweet and sour chicken with rice, twice-baked potatoes, Korean barbecue tacos, tamales, chicken enchiladas, taco soup, nachos, dips and chips, including Texas caviar, a variety of desserts, including flan, which a group of juniors are doing themselves, and beans and cornbread. Fried pickles are another of the more unusual offerings.
“And one group is doing traditional island cuisine,” Fletes said. “They’re from Micronesia.”
In addition, the ROTC and Sam Houston students will have tables at the event for their own fundraisers.
“It’s a great thing for the community, and it’s a great thing for the community,” Fletes said. “And plenty of food. It’s a great $5 meal.”
Tickets to the event can be purchased at the door or from any Corsicana High School junior student.
