A U.S. Postal carrier has been transported to Baylor Hospital in Dallas after her vehicle was struck by another vehicle around 11:30 a.m. Wednesday as she was delivering mail on FM 637 at County Road SE 1040.
The carrier had stopped to put some mail in a mailbox when a dually pickup came over the hill and struck her, pushing her minivan into some trees and scattering mail along the roadway, according to Department of Public Safety Trooper Casey Crocker.
Corsicana Fire Department emergency personnel responded with the equipment to cut her free from the smashed vehicle. She was taken to the hospital by Corsicana Fire Department ambulance. The air ambulances couldn’t fly because of the weather, according to Fire Chief Donald McMullan. The status of her health wasn’t clear Wednesday afternoon.
Crocker said speed was a contributing factor in the wreck, but it was still under investigation.
The carrier had evidently stopped when she was rear-ended by the truck.
“There were gouge marks in the roadway, right by the mailbox, and that’s what a witness stated,” Crocker said.
