Early voting ends Friday

Corsicana — Friday is the final day for early voting in the Nov. 5 General Election.

Those wishing to vote early ahead of Tuesday’s election day may do so until 5 p.m. Friday in the basement of the Navarro County Courthouse. On Election Day Tuesday, polls throughout the county will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Ballot items in Navarro County include nine statewide propositions and a proposed $7.5 million bond issue by Navarro County to help fund part of the proposed restoration of the Navarro County Courthouse. Voters in the Kerens Independent School District are also being asked for approval of a $16.7 million bond for various improvements to the schools.

Through 10 days of early voting, there have been a total of 1,186 early votes cast, according to Danda Parker, Navarro County Elections Coordinator. That represents nearly four times more early votes than were cast in the 2011 “off cycle” November General Election, when only 295 early votes were cast.

In addition to those casting early ballots in person, a total of 118 ballots have been requested by mail.

Voters planning to vote early Friday, and on Election Day Tuesday, are reminded that the new Texas law requiring voters to produce a valid photo ID at the polls is in effect.

The Daily Sun will post election returns on our online newspaper as well as on Facebook and Twitter on Tuesday evening.
