Frost students excel at UIL meet

Corsicana — Frost students dominated the first round of UIL District 20-A Zone 1 elementary academic championships held Monday in Frost.

Competing with the Frost students were students from Abbott, Bynum, Covington and Aquilla. The Junior High championships will be held Nov. 11.

The official elementary results were Frost in first place with 770 points; Abbott, second with 490 points; Bynum, third with 354.5 points; Covington, fourth, with 99; and Aquilla fifth, with 30 points.

Individual category results from fifth grade:

Oral reading, Frost, first, Abbott, second, Bynum, third. Spelling, Bynum, first; Frost, second; Abbot, third; Covington, fourth. Listening skills, Frost first; Abbott, second; Bynum, third. Ready writing, Bynum, first; Frost, second; Abbott, third. Maps and graphs, Frost, first; Abbott, second; Bynum, third. Number sense, Frost, first; Bynum, second; Abbott third. Art, Frost, first; Abbott, second; Aquilla, third. Dictionary skills, Frost, first; Abbott, second; Bynum, third. Social Studies, Bynum, first; Abbott, second; Frost, third. Music memory, Frost, first; Bynum, second; Abbott, third. Chess puzzle, Frost, first; Bynum, second; Abbott, third.

Frost’s total scores for fifth-grade competitions were 408.5 points. Abbott received 175 points. Bynum, 172.5 points. Covington garnered seven points, and Aquilla got four points.

Total scores for fourth grade competitions, Frost, first with 207 points; Abbott, second with 163 points, Bynum, third with 69; Covington, fourth place, got 20; and Aquilla, fifth place with 12 points.

Third grade results:

Story telling, Abbott, first; Frost, second; Bynum, third. Music memory, Frost, first; Covington, second; Abbott, third; Bynum, fourth. Spelling, Bynum, first; Abbott, second; Aquilla, third; Frost, fourth. Ready writing, Abbott, first, with Frost and Bynum tying for second. Chess puzzle, Abbott, first; Frost and Covington tied for second; Bynum, third.

Total scores for third grade competitions had Abbott first with 109 points; Frost second, with 104 points; Bynum, third with 63; Covington fourth with 33; and Aquilla fifth with 14 points.

Second grade results:

Creative writing, Bynum and Covington tied for first; Frost, second. Story telling, Covington, first; Bynum and Abbott tied for second. Frost, third. Chess puzzle, Abbott, first; Frost, second; Bynum, third, Covington, fourth.

Total scores for second grade competitions had Frost first, with 51 points; Bynum, second with 50 points; Abbott, third with 43; Covington fourth with 39 points.
