Corsicana — A listing of meetings and events of interest from throughout Navarro County.
A car show will take place from 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday at Rice High School. There will be trophies for the top 10 vehicles, as well as the “Band’s Choice.” In addition to the show, there wil lbe a bake sale and silent and live auctions. The entry fee is $15, and all money will go towards the spring band trip. This year, the Bulldog band has been invited to go to Disneyworld. If it rains, the car show will take place Nov. 23. All cars, trucks, motorcycles, late performance, project, race cars, 4x4s, street rods and others are welcome to enter. The show is not exclusive to any car club. Blooming Grove VFD will hold a Pancake Breakfast Fundraiser from 8 to 11 a.m. at the Fire station. Please come out and eat a stack of pancakes, and support your local Volunteer Fire Department. Carter Blood Bank will be here from 8:30 a.m. until 12 p.m. This time of year it is critical for them to have a surplus of units. Please come help us to help them.
Corsicana Vendor Days for November will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 16 and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 17 at the Pegasus Ballroom inside Ideal Self Storage at 801 North 13th Street. Pictures with Santa will be available on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Corsicana Art League will meet at 6 p.m. at Kathryn Corley's Home, 1604 Bowie Circle. She will graciously show her art collection and tell about the pieces. For more info: Call 903-519-9082.
The Membership Committee will host the Kinsloe House contribution luncheon with the program, “Dallas’ Darkest Day” that will revisit the fateful day 50 years ago when President John F. Kennedy was assassinated in downtown Dallas. Dr. Tommy Stringer of Navarro College will present a program remembering the life and legacy of the Camelot president. The Warehouse Living Arts Center Theatre will present its final production of the year, Irving Berlin’s “Annie Get Your Gun” as revised by Peter Stone, on Nov. 21, 22, 23 at 7:30 p.m. and Nov. 24 at 2 p.m. at the Palace Theatre located at 112 W. Sixth Avenue. Tickets can be purchased in advance at the Warehouse Living Arts Center at 119 W. Sixth Avenue. Tickets may also be purchased online at www.warehouselivingartscenter.com. A one day Driver Safety Program will be held 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Navarro Regional Hospital located at 3310 W. Highway 22 in Corsicana. The refresher course is designed for drivers 50 years of age and older, but is open to anyone. The cost of the course is $12 for AARP members and $14 for non-members. Attendees may qualify for reductions in automobile insurance premiums for three years upon completion of the course. For more information call 903-654-6892.

Richland Community Park will host a Sweet Shop fundraising event from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. at Russell Stover Candies in Corsicana. The store will donate 10 percent of purchases during the event hours to the park to help pay for a basketball court and other playground equipment.

The Corsicana Children's Company will present “Nutcracker” Dec. 4-6 at 7 p.m. and Dec. 7-8 at 2:30 p.m. Tickets are $8 for Adults, $7 for Teens and $10 for Kids 12 and younger. By adding splendid lyrics to a simplified version of Tchaikovsky's famous score, this unique version of The Nutcracker captures the magic and fantasy of the ballet story without the dancing . Blooming Grove is having its Christmas parade and celebration beginning with the parade lineup at 10:30 a.m. The theme is an "Old Fashioned Western Christmas." The parade line up is at the high school parking lot. The parade goes through downtown starting at 11 a.m. Park activities will follow including food booths, pictures with Santa, a silent auction and bake sale, carolers and other entertainment, door prizes, and a Santa look alike contest. Angels of Corsicana Troop Support will meet at 10 a.m. at the American Legion, 624 N. Beaton, to help pack Christmas stockings for approximately 325 military personnel. There will be a free lunch provided by the American Legion Auxiliary immediately following the packing. All are welcome, including little ones. Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 1009 will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 10, 2013 at the Sirloin Stockade, 2508 W. Seventh Ave, Corsicana. Membership is open to U.S. armed forces veterans who served on active duty (for other than training purposes) in the Republic of Vietnam between Feb. 28,1961 and May 7,1975, or in ANY duty location between Aug. 5,1964 and May 7,1975. The veteran must submit a copy of his/her DD Form 214 along with the application and dues. Members and guest are invited to come early and eat and visit prior to the meeting. We welcome any Veteran as an associate member who served honorably who does not meet the above criteria.
