AUSTIN - The Texas Juvenile Justice Department board voted unanimously Friday to accept a staff recommendation to close the Corsicana Residential Treatment Center, also known as the Corsicana State Home.
The vote came at the board's monthly meeting Friday held in Austin.
The TJJD decision is now in the hands of the state's Legislative Budget Board for final approval.
TJJD Executive Director Mike Griffiths called on the LBB to move quickly on its decision. Should the LBB not approve the recommendation, Griffiths said the LBB would have to decide which unit to close.
State Senator Brian Birdwell called on the LBB to move swiftly, and should it decide to accept the recommendation to close the facility, he asked that the TJJD develop a plan to "re-purpose" the Corsicana property.
Daily Sun reporter Janet Jacobs was at the meeting, and will file a full report later today.
