Blooming Grove High School student council will hold its first annual Turkey Trot 5K fun run at 10 a.m. at Blooming Grove High School on the cross country course behind the new gym. Pre-registration is Oct. 30 to Nov. 6. Participants can also register on race day from 9 to 10 a.m. Registration is $15, and prizes will be awarded. Angels of Corsicana Troop Support will meet at 9 a.m. at 1020 N. Bus. 45. All ages are welcome to come pack. If anyone knows of military serving in harm’s way, please bring their name and address to the packing so we can send a gift box to them. This will be our Thanksgiving box. Christmas packing has been set for Saturday, Dec. 7 at the American Legion Hall at 10 a.m. We are receiving donations for our Christmas stockings. They can be delivered at the above address Monday through Saturday from 8 to 10:30 a.m. We will also be receiving donations at 5 p.m. at the Legion Post. Please support our military. Navarro County Genealogical Society will hold a meeting at 10 a.m. with the program immediately following. The public is invited to attend. There is no cost to attend the meeting. Program: Finding Graves. Dana Stubbs will bring a slide show pertaining to her grave-hunting experiences with techniques she picked up along the way while hunting and finding graves. The meeting will be held in the Nancy Roberts Room at the Corsicana Public Library.
VFW on West Highway 31 will host Classic Country from 8 p.m. to 12 midnight. This is our Veteran’s Day Celebration. Cover is $5.
The Shakers and Scrapers Car Club will have a Cruise-in and food drive at 3 p.m. This will all be held at the corner of First and Beaton (at the old Stewart Motor Co. Bldg). It is also the food drive for Thanksgiving, so if you would like to donate some canned goods to the food drive it would be much appreciated.
Woodmen of the World Lodge 5's Thanksgiving meeting will be at the Lone Star Room of the Kenneth Walker Dining Hall at Navarro College at 6 p.m. RSVP by Nov. 6 to 903-874-7050.
The Dawson National Honor Society is honoring its local heroes at a Veterans Day Assembly at 10:45 a.m. Nov. 11, 2013 in the Dawson gymnasium. All local veterans and their families are encouraged to attend.

The National Association of Active/Retired Federal Employees (NARFE), Chapter 1191, will hold its monthly meeting at the Sirloin Stockade restaurant in Corsicana from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. A representative from Blue-Cross-Blue Shield will be our guest speaker. The Kinsloe House Furnishings Committee with Linda Fannin and Carolyn French co-chairs will present Sheriff Elmer Tanner of Navarro County. Sheriff Tanner will present a program titled “ Don’t Let the Grinch Steal your Christmas.” He will speak to attendees about staying safe during the holidays and about the workings of the Navarro County Sheriff’s Department to keep the citizens of Navarro County safe. The House will be decorated with stuffed animals that will be presented to Sheriff Tanner to take back to the department for use in incidents involving children. Members are encouraged to come to learn how we can stay safe not only during the holidays but at all times. Navarro Regional Hospital’s Senior Circle Chapter will celebrate its Fifth Anniversary with Boots and Bangles Expo and Dinner. Expo begins at 5 p.m. and event at 6 p.m. at the IOOF Event Center. Singers Byron Haynie and Taylor Parks will entertain. There will be a photo booth. Bring a non-perishable donation for the local food pantry. This event is free for Senior Circle members, and $15 for non-members (which includes a one-year membership). Blooming Grove VFD will hold a Pancake Breakfast Fundraiser from 8 to 11 a.m. at the Fire station. Please come out and eat a fine stack of pancakes, and support your local Volunteer Fire Department. Carter Blood Bank will be here from 8:30 a.m. until 12 p.m. This time of year it is critical for them to have a surplus of units. Please come help us to help them.
Corsicana Vendor Days for November will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 16 and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 17 at the Pegasus Ballroom inside Ideal Self Storage at 801 North 13th Street. Pictures with Santa will be available on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
The Membership Committee will host the Kinsloe House contribution luncheon with the program, “Dallas’ Darkest Day” that will revisit the fateful day 50 years ago when President John F. Kennedy was assassinated in downtown Dallas. Dr. Tommy Stringer of Navarro College will present a program remembering the life and legacy of the Camelot president. The Warehouse Living Arts Center Theatre will present its final production of the year, Irving Berlin’s “Annie Get Your Gun” as revised by Peter Stone, on Nov. 21, 22, 23 at 7:30 p.m. and Nov. 24 at 2 p.m. at the Palace Theatre located at 112 W. A one day Driver Safety Program will be held 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Navarro Regional Hospital located at 3310 W. Highway 22 in Corsicana. The refresher course is designed for drivers 50 years of age and older, but is open to anyone. The cost of the course is $12 for AARP members and $14 for non-members.
