Navarro County Sheriff Elmer Tanner was one of more than 150 sheriffs and other law enforcement officers from around the state that visited the 83rd Texas Legislature on Tuesday, Feb. 19, 2013.
The Legislative Committee and staff of the Sheriff’s Association of Texas coordinated the special event to facilitate the Sheriff’s involvement in the legislative process. Resolutions were passed in both the House and Senate recognizing the Sheriffs and the Sheriff’s Association of Texas. Sheriffs spent the remainder of the day meeting with their individual Senators and Representatives to discuss pending legislation and provide input on bills that affect the citizens of the State of Texas. The sheriffs feel this contact is crucial to providing meaningful law enforcement in their counties.
Founded in 1874, the Sheriff’s Association of Texas is a non-profit professional and educational organization dedicated to the preservation of peace and the protection of the lives and property of the citizens of Texas.
