Corsicana — A Eureka area man was sentenced Thursday to life in prison without parole on charges of continuous sexual assault of a child.
Darrell Carlin Ferguson, 48, was found guilty Thursday after a four-day trial in 13th District Court.
The jury deliberated almost five hours Thursday afternoon before returning the verdict. After the jury returned its verdict, Judge James Lagomarsino sentenced Ferguson to life in prison without parole.
Ferguson, who is a former Texas prison guard, was charged with continuous sexual assault of a child over a nearly two year period from September of 2007 through June of 2009. The victim was a female under 14 years of age.
Amy Cadwell and Andrew Wolf prosecuted the case for the district attorney’s office. This is the third conviction on the charge of continued sexual assault of a child the
Navarro County District Attorney’s office has prosecuted, and all three have resulted in convictions with a sentence of life without parole, said R. Lowell Thompson, district attorney.
“Andrew and Amy do a great job of prosecuting these crimes,” Thompson said. “I’m also proud of the jury and the citizens of Navarro County. These are hard cases to hear.”
