Navarro College presidential search narrows focus, will visit San Jose

Corsicana — The Navarro College Board of Trustees voted Friday to send three board members to visit San Jose, Calif., the city where one of three finalists for the presidential position, Dr. Barbara Kavalier, serves as president of San Jose City College.

Trustees Lloyd Huffman, Dr. James Price, and Phil Judson will visit San Jose this week to learn more about the college and Kavalier, a process similar to one followed for the selection of the last two college presidents.

Kavalier appeared before trustees on Feb. 22 in a closed session interview, followed by a public forum that gave staff, faculty and the public a chance to meet with the presidential hopeful.

Huffman said the contingent will visit with staff, faculty, and area leaders in San Jose. They’ll leave Monday and return Wednesday, Huffman said.

Following the visit, the three will report back to the full college board and make a determination on what the next step in the presidential process will be.
