Williams faces 25 years to life in sex assault conviction

Corsicana — Michael David Williams, 39, was found guilty of continuous sexual assault of a child Friday by a Navarro County jury. This was Williams’ second trial on the same charge. He was accused of repeatedly molesting a girl from the time she was five until about the time she turned 12.

Williams was originally indicted on the charge back in 2011, but when it went to trial the jury couldn’t agree on a verdict. He was reindicted in 2012 and tried last week. There wasn’t anything different in the second time around, said District Attorney Lowell Thompson.

“The case was presented and obviously you know how you’re going to handle it, and how the defense is going to handle it. But it’s basically the same facts, the same little girl,” he said.

Sentencing will be done by District Judge James Lagomarsino, who has ordered a pre-sentencing investigation. He’s eligible for 25 years to life, without possibility of parole.

The case was tried by Assistant District Attorneys Amy Cadwell and Andrew Wolf, who are on the DA’s Special Victims team.

“They did a good job,” Thompson said.
