Corsicana — The Gospel Five will celebrate its 31st Anniversary at 7 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 17 at Kelly’s Temple Church located at 501 N. Third St., Corsicana. Elder Billy Joe Kelly, pastor. Everyone is invited to come and praise the Lord with us.

Unity Baptist Church, 101 S. 30th St., where Chad Owens is pastor, invites you to services: Sunday School at 9:45 am.  Sunday — worship and children’s church at 11 a.m., Training Classes at 5 p.m., worship at 6 p.m., and Wednesday — Mid Week Service at 7 p.m., Kings Kids class meets the second and fourth Wednesdays of each month. Tuesday, a group from Unity visits shut-ins. Thursday, there is a Bible study at Northwest Apartments Community Center. At 7 p.m. Saturday our Youth will have a Bake Sale in front of Fred’s, starting at 10 a.m. This Bake Sale is to raise money for upcoming youth camps.  Sunday, a group teaches and sings at Twilight Nursing Home at 9 a.m. and another group sings at Country Meadows at 2 p.m.  We will have Soup/ Salad Day this Sunday after morning service in honor of our Pastor’s birthday!  For transportation to services, call (903)872-2861. A nursery is open for church services.

Bethany Baptist Church invites you and yours to its 60th Homecoming Celebration at 3 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 18. Come expecting a blessing from God and fellowship with members, family and friends. The theme this year is “It’s Time to Come Home.” The Rev. J.R. Mumphery, pastor of the Greater Calvary Baptist Church, Dallas, will bring the gospel message. Food will be served after the service.

First Baptist Church of Eureka, 8718 Hwy 287 South, will sponsor an outdoor Community Family Movie Night at 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 16. There will be no charge to watch the movie. We will have hot dogs, popcorn and drinks for sale for those who would like to donate to our building fund. Bring lawn chairs or blankets and the family out for an evening of fun. (if weather is bad we will move inside) More details to come. Sunday service is at 10:45 a.m., first and third Wednesdays, prayer service; second and fourth Wednesdays, Ladies Night; fifth Wednesdays, Youth Night; first Saturdays of each month Men's fellowship.

    Lacy Rose Goodrich, 9, is a typical Bowie fourth-grader. She likes to watch “Full House,” reruns and “iCarly,” and she has a dog and a cat. She takes gymnastics and dance lessons, and has attended four different Vacation Bible Schools this summer, as well as all the parks and recreation summer programs for kids.
    What’s unusual about Lacy is that she also raised nearly $500 for the food pantry since Easter, which is the equivalent of 3,450 pounds of food for hungry Navarro County residents.

  • City cancels ambulance contract with county

    The City of Corsicana has notified Navarro County officials it is cancelling its agreement with the county to provide EMS ambulance service to areas outside the city limits. According to a letter sent to county officials by Corsicana Mayor Chuck McClanahan, ambulance service to county residents will end on Jan. 31, 2015.

    The project to rebuild Seventh Avenue or Highway 31 as it goes through Corsicana is almost over. From an uneven patchwork of paving and pitted concrete, now it’s a smooth ride from Beaton all the way through town.
    It just took an extra year to finish.

    An attempt to bootleg electricity off a pole using jumper cables is believed to have caused a building fire that took out a former restaurant in Angus Friday morning, one of a series of calls to Navarro County Sheriff’s Office to the southern end of the county over the weekend.
