Church News for Friday, Sept. 6, 2013

Corsicana — God's Holy Temple COGIC, located at 301 East Third Ave. downtown Corsicana in the home center, would like to thank everyone who came last week and celebrated with us our Third Year Church Anniversary service. The official day will end Sunday, Sept. 8, 2013 at 4 p.m. with special guest church and congregation, Behind The Veil Ministry with Bishop Sam Cumby and First Lady Lurna Cumby of Fairfield. Come and worship God with us in singing and praising God for the mighty things he is doing at God's Holy Temple COGIC. Pastor Eric Grant and Lady Jackie Grant, pastors.

The Blooming Grove United Methodist Church, 300 S. Kerr,  Blooming Grove, will be celebrating and honoring the 100th anniversary of its current church building on Sunday, Oct. 13, 2013. The church doors will open to welcome past and present members, guests and visitors at 10 a.m. A special worship service will begin at 11 a.m. preached by Bishop Mike Lowry with special music by the Douglas Family.  Following the service, lunch will be served in its Heritage Hall. Please join us in celebrating this historic day.

NOW Faith Miracle Center, 301 Margaret Dr., Kerens, celebrates its Eighth Year Church Anniversary at 3:30 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 15, 2013. Come and celebrate with us. There will be guest churches, great choirs, praise dancing and a dynamic speaker.

The 66th Annual Silent Grove Cemetery Annual will be at 3 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 15, 2013 at the St. John Baptist Church located at 209 T. A. Carroll Avenue. The spoken word will be brought by Pastor Charles Kelley of the Rockhill Baptist Church. All family members and other relatives are encouraged to come and support this service. Wesley United Methodist Church, 3308 N. Beaton St., will resume its after school program Noah’s Kids at 3:15 to 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 17. Registration is Tuesday, Sept. 10 from 2:30 to 5 p.m. This program is for all third, fourth and fifth graders. Come and join us for snacks, crafts, Bible lessons and learning how to take care of God’s good earth in our church garden.   • YMCA warns against woman fraudulently soliciting funds

    A woman has been soliciting funds, falsely portraying herself as representing the YMCA, Executive Director Terry Seth reported late Wednesday afternoon. A business owner in town informed Seth a lady solicited his business, saying she was raising money for the YMCA for a program for deaf children. Seth says the YMCA does not have such a program.

  • Wine and walking

    About a dozen local businesses are opening their doors for the Derrick Days Wine and Cheese stroll this year, and many are only doing it as an open house opportunity.

    The stroll is scheduled for 5 to 7 p.m. April 24 in downtown Corsicana. It's free and open to the public.

A year after that deadly blast, the city will stop to remember that fateful day and pay tribute to those who were lost, including Navarro County firefighter Perry Calvin, one of the first responders killed by the blast.

    Community perception of the role Navarro College plays, and how it can better serve Corsicana and Navarro County is the goal of a Town Hall meeting called at the college for Monday, April 21. The town hall presentation will run from 6 to 7:30 p.m. in the Dr. Richard M. Sanchez Library on the Corsicana campus.
