Corsicana — There will be two public opportunities to honor those who gave their lives in service to their country on Memorial Day Monday, one at the courthouse and a second at Woodland Memorial Park.

The courthouse ceremony begins 11 a.m. at the Navarro County War Memorial with Billy Richards serving as master of ceremonies. There will be music, the posting of colors by the Navarro County Sheriff’s Color Guard, and Taps played by Les Grayson.

The speaker will be Ron Wright, former president of Vietnam Veterans of America, Navarro Rifles Chapter 1009. Wright grew up in Waxahachie, and has lived in Corsicana over 11 years. He was in the Army from 1966 to 1975, and saw combat during the Vietnam War, earning numerous medals and citations.

“We thank Corley Funeral Home for supplying us with small United States flags and bottled water,” Richards said.

Then at 1 p.m. at the Woodland Memorial Park gazebo, a special service with the theme “Gone, but not Forgotten” will take place with Col. Bill Downey of the Air Force, and grandson of the legendary first black veterinarian in Texas, Dr. Will Coleman, as the keynote speaker.

Sponsored by the Single Believers Ministries and Woodland Cemetery Association, this service will also feature the Navarro County Sheriff’s Department Color Guard and Taps played by Les Grayson.

Music will be performed by several, including Taylor Parks, Peter St. Clair, Bro. Curtis Sparks, Ruby Williams and Cheryl Evans.
