Corsicana — A listing of meetings and events of interest from throughout Navarro County.

June 26

Habitat for Humanity of Navarro County will be dedicating its latest Habitat Home at 6 p.m. in a special ceremony at 307 Gioia Circle, off North Ninth Street. This is the fifth house built on Gioia Circle, and the seventh house the program has built for a “partner family” since its inception. The public is invited to attend.

A public meeting to discuss the Seaway and Pegasus pipelines will be held at 7 p.m. at the Corsicana Public Library. The pipelines both run through Navarro County and Richland Chambers Lake, transporting tar sand south to Houston. Both companies have experienced major leaks over the last three years, in Arkansas and Illinois. Organizers of the meeting, Phil Krejci and Barbara Lawrence, invite the public to come learn more about tar sands, the hazardous chemicals used to dilute them, how damage to pipelines is monitored, how the pipes are maintained, how leaks are detected and what happens should a spill occur. Representatives of the companies, the Navarro County Office of Emergency Management, the Texas Railroad Commission, Exxon, Public Citizen and the Tarrant Regional Water District have been invited to attend the meeting.
