Corsicana — Navarro County Precinct 1 Justice of the Peace Vicki Gray has announced her intention to seek re-election to her office. Gray filed on Nov. 9, the first day of filing, to run in the March 2014 Republican primary.

Judge Gray has held this position for three terms, and said she wants to spend the next four years serving them “with the same enthusiasm since being elected originally in 2002, after clerking for Judge Wanda Hartley and Judge Aubrey Smith.”

This past year, Gray was one of two Justices of the Peace in the state of Texas to be given a scholarship to attend Texas Association of Counties Leadership Class, a three module school to teach leadership skills and to enhance team work in county government. Gray has also been the recipient of the “Judge of the Year” award from the Justice of the Peace and Constables Association that serves over 800 Justice Court judges statewide, and has received scholarships to attend the National Judicial College in Reno, Nev. While there she received over 80 hours of specialized training from instructors from all over the United States.

Gray has been on the faculty of the Texas Justice Court Training Center and instructs both judges and clerks, as well as serving on the Court Clerk Education Committee that sets the curriculum for all the court clerks in the state of Texas for the last seven years.

Along with presiding over criminal and civil cases, she handles truancy cases for CISD as well as all truancy cases for Rice Independent School District.

Gray has been married to Calvin Gray for 31 years. Her son Robert, his wife Kim, and her three grandchildren, Mike, Emily and Ethan live in Rice.

Gray has lived in Corsicana for 44 years and her husband is a life long resident. She began her career with Navarro County in 1982. She graduated with honors from Navarro College in the paralegal program and serves on several boards at the college. She is a member of Northside Baptist Church.
