A Houston man has been found dead in Freestone County, after family members tried unsuccessfully to track him by his cell phone.
Shawn Herren, 33, had been working a job in Dallas and was headed home when he suddenly disappeared in Freestone County.
His wife came up from Houston, and aided by Herren’s brother, they began their own search for the missing man using the GPS on his cell phone. They managed to track him to a truck stop between Buffalo and Fairfield when the trail ran cold.
“They lost contact with him Saturday evening,” explained Freestone County Sheriff’s Sgt. Clayton Aldrich. “He was reported as a missing person.”
Deputies were searching behind buildings and truck stops when they found his body at a closed rest stop area on Interstate 45 in the southern part of the county.
Although the Harley Davidson motorcycle Herren was riding is missing, there were no signs of trauma on the body, Aldrich said.
“The autopsy is still on-going, they’re doing toxicology and things like that,” he said. “The manner of death has not been determined.”
“It’s still an on-going investigation. There’s still a lot of stuff we don’t know yet,” Aldrich said.
