Bringing out the beauty

Corsicana — An estimated 35 little girls turned out for the Corsicana Parks and Recreation Departments Glitz and Glamour event Monday at Cassady’s salon.

They got their nails painted, hair fixed, a dash of make-up, and the girls also made their own ankle bracelets and decorated bags.

The parks department bought each girl a T-shirt, as well.

This is about the sixth or seventh year, according to Elonda Cassady, owner of the shop.

“It has grown over the years,” Cassady said. “We just have a good time.”

Triplets Olivia, Layne and Cate Biles said they enjoy having their hair fixed the best.

“It’s fun,” Layne said.

Alyssa Knopps said it’s all fun.

“Everything, they just give you prettiness,” she said. “You get to do fun activities.”

Helping with the project were volunteers from the Navarro College Cosmetology classes, as well as the stylists from Cassady’s.

“For the staff its a volunteer day,” she said. “This is their community service.”

Jennifer Ovalle has been a stylist of Glitz and Glamour for the past four years, and she enjoys it as much as the girls do, she said. She also enjoys doing the little girls’ hair the most.

“You can do something different for each person,” she said, smiling at six-year-old Maddie Muldner in her chair. “It’s a variety.”
