Corsicana — A Texas Department of Public Safety Trooper received some minor injuries Thursday morning when he was driving home and struck a horse in the road, according to Sgt. Thomas Moore, area supervisor.

The horse was one of several horses that had gotten out of their pasture and were loose on West Highway 31, about 10 miles outside of Corsicana. The trooper was headed home around 12:50 a.m. when he struck the horse. The horse died as a result of the wreck.

The trooper was transported to Navarro Regional Hospital with some superficial abrasions and was treated and released.

Officials are still trying to determine who owned the escaped horses, Moore said.
