A Navarro County man was hospitalized late Tuesday following what is being called an accidental shooting.
Navarro County Sheriff Elmer Tanner identified the victim as Brandon Putman. He said Putman was hit by fire from an AR-15 rifle that accidentally discharged.
Sheriff’s deputies and emergency medical personnel were dispatched to NWCR 3040 in Purdon about 9:30 p.m. Tuesday after a call reported a shooting.
Tanner said Putman was hit “multiple” times by accidental fire from the weapon after the trigger was “bumped” when another person removed it from a wall where it had been hanging. Tanner said it is believed that four rounds were fired in total from the weapon.
Detectives interviewed several witnesses and ruled the shooting to be accidental, Tanner said. The sheriff said the case has been closed.
Putman was taken by air ambulance to a Dallas hospital following the incident. Tanner said Putman was reported to be in stable condition Wednesday.
