Navarro Regional Hospital’s Senior Circle will have a Pot Luck at the hospital classrooms from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Bring a covered dish of your choice and join in on the fun. Contact Connie Beal to sign up at (903) 654-6892.

Jackson Ex-Students Association will hold its 2013 Juneteenth Pageant at Drane Middle School. This is a fundraiser to support the JESA Scholarship Fund. Girls ages 13 through 19 and babies to age 6 are being sought to come participate in an annual fun event. Applications may be obtained from Mary Wilson at (903) 647-0005 or Seri Nolan at (903) 493-0612.

CHS Calicos Dance Drill Team will hold “Boots N’ Bucks” at the drive thru of Community National Bank and Trust from 7:45 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. Please show your support for the 2013-2014 Calicos by helping them raise money for events and activities! Come crop some bucks into the boot!

June 17

Senior Circle at Navarro Regional Hospital will hold its Senior Circle Lunch and Learn in the hospital classrooms from noon to 1 p.m. Topic is “Identity Theft: How Safe Are You?” Identity theft happens all the time, whether over the phone or in a store, it can happen to you. Join Officer James Hudson of the Corsicana Police Department to find out how not to fall into the path of Identity theft. Lunch will be provided, please call Connie Beal to reserve your spot at (903) 654-6892.

June 19

The Thomas Meredith Chapter, Colonial Dames XVII Century, will host the program luncheon at Kinsloe House.  Attendees will be delighted to hear Jo Skewes give a book review of Edward Lengel’s book Inventing George Washington in Myth and Memory. Committee members are Barbara Bush, Geneva Davis, Virginia Montfort, Betty Partain, Ruth Scott, Gelene Simpson, and Cynthia White. Virginia Montfort will provide information of George Washington’s reluctance to accept the position as first President of the Colonies.  Founders of the Thomas Meredith chapter will be remembered as this is the 40th Anniversary of the local chapter’s beginning in Corsicana. Kinsloe members are reminded to make your reservations or cancellations by Monday, June 17th, 12 noon by calling the Kinsloe House at (903) 874-5791. This is the last program luncheon for the 2012-2013 Kinsloe House year.

  • YMCA warns against woman fraudulently soliciting funds

    A woman has been soliciting funds, falsely portraying herself as representing the YMCA, Executive Director Terry Seth reported late Wednesday afternoon. A business owner in town informed Seth a lady solicited his business, saying she was raising money for the YMCA for a program for deaf children. Seth says the YMCA does not have such a program.

  • Wine and walking

    About a dozen local businesses are opening their doors for the Derrick Days Wine and Cheese stroll this year, and many are only doing it as an open house opportunity.

    The stroll is scheduled for 5 to 7 p.m. April 24 in downtown Corsicana. It's free and open to the public.

    In April 2013, the city of West was forever changed after an explosion at a fertilizer plant killed 15 people and altered the landscape of the tiny Texas town. A year after that deadly blast, the city will stop to remember that fateful day and pay tribute to those who were lost, including Navarro County firefighter Perry Calvin, one of the first responders killed by the blast.

  • Navarro College seeks public input at Town Hall event

    Community perception of the role Navarro College plays, and how it can better serve Corsicana and Navarro County is the goal of a Town Hall meeting called at the college for Monday, April 21. The town hall presentation will run from 6 to 7:30 p.m. in the Dr. Richard M. Sanchez Library on the Corsicana campus.

    After the hail storm Monday, the Corsicana Police Department began receiving several calls from citizens reporting roofing contractors going door to door soliciting to inspect and repair roofs from possible hail damage.
