Two killed in Sunday crash

Corsicana — Two people died Sunday morning in a one-car crash south of Kerens.

Victor Castro of Corsicana and Jose Gomez of Kerens were both dead at the scene of the crash on SECR 0220 and FM 1393 south of Kerens, according to Trooper James Colunga of the Texas Department of Public Safety.

Colunga said the two were traveling north on SECR 0220 in a 2003 Ford pickup at about 9 a.m. Sunday, traveling at a high rate of speed, when the driver lost control and the truck left the roadway and rolled twice, ejecting the two men.Colunga said investigators are trying to determine which victim was driving the truck.

Colunga said neither victim was wearing a seat belt, and added that alcohol is thought to have been a possible factor in the crash. He said both bodies were sent to the medical examiner for autopsies.

Trooper Chris Williamson is leading the investigation into the crash.
