Corsicana — Woodmen of the World Lodge 5 will have its meeting at 6 p.m. in the Lodge Hall at 200 W. Oak Lawn.  All members, their families and guests are cordially invited.

The Navarro County Branch of the NAACP remembers Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. with “A Day of Celebration” to include a rally at Bunert Park at 10 a.m. with guest speaker the Rev. Kenneth Walton Jr., pastor of First Independent Baptist Church. Following will be a march to the MLK Center for an oratory contest at noon. Everyone is welcome to participate. Corsicana Volunteer Income Tax  Assistance (VITA) will be at the Kerens Public Library from 1 to 4 p.m. each Wednesday until  April 11. If you are a low income (usually under $42K) or elderly, and in need of tax filing assistance, take advantage of this free program. This year we are seeing clients with appointments first and then we’ll work with our walk-ins. VITA will be at the YMCA in Corsicana on Tuesday and Thursday from 2 until 7 p.m. and Wednesdays in Kerens at the library from 1 until 4 p.m.  Call George Burrell at (903) 879-2091 to schedule your appointment.

Navarro Regional Hospital’s Healthy Woman program presents An Evening with Elizabeth Smart at 6 p.m. at the IOOF Event Center.  Elizabeth’s presentation not only tells her story of being abducted in 2002 and held prisoner for 9 months, but also discusses topics such as overcoming extreme adversity and not allowing your past to dictate your future.
