Corsicana — Almost two pounds of marijuana and over $8,400 in cash was seized Thursday during a routine traffic stop by Navarro County Sheriff’s deputies.

Deputy Casey Gaston stopped the car on FM 744 west of Corsicana about 8:30 p.m. for speeding. During a consensual search of the vehicle, Gaston discovered approximately 1.75 pounds of marijuana and just over $7,000 in cash, folded in $1,000 increments.

Gaston, along with Deputy Danny Book who responded to backup Gaston, and investigator Sgt. Stan Farmer, arrested the suspect on charges of possession of marijuana over four ounces/under five pounds.

When being booked in at the Navarro County Jail, deputies discovered another $1,465 in cash in the suspect’s possession and seized that as well, as a result of the marijuana seizure.

The suspect has been identified as Daniel Peddicord, 39, of Barry. He was arraigned Friday by Justice of the Peace Connie Hickman, who set bond on the state jail felony charge at $25,000. He was released on bond Friday, according to jail records.

“I’m very proud of those officers for being diligent in their enforcement,” said Sheriff Elmer Tanner. “They turned a routine traffic stop into a significant narcotic and asset seizure.”

Tanner said the marijuana has an estimated street value of $3,250 to $3,500.
