Red carpet royalty awaits VOICE Luncheon crowd

Corsicana — “The most entertaining way to spend your lunch hour” is how the Ninth Annual VOICE Spring Luncheon and Red Carpet Style Show is being billed, and indeed, there’s entertainment galore on tap.

The luncheon will be held at The Cook Center at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, May 23. Tables are still available, so act quickly to reserve yours by calling Gina Dieterichs at (903) 872-0180.

Special guest is Joan Rivers .... er, Ellie Weingardt as Joan Rivers. Dieterichs said there are very few Rivers impersonators in the United States, and this one is not only “clean” and hails from Chicago, she is endorsed by Rivers herself.

The Red Carpet will be manned by Rivers, who will comment on styles from various merchants in Corsicana, Kerens, Athens and Fairfield: Grace & Style, VF Outlet, Uniquely Yours, Payless Shoe Source, Factory Connection, Bannister, Bon Worth, The Children’s Shoppe, Canterbury Couture, Luci Blu, Kathy’s Boutique, CAbi Clothing, Cato’s, Rue 21, Country Junction, Cassady’s, The Turquoise Pistol and Sweet Tangerine.

“We also have a large bevy of models, and a true red carpet,” said Tresa Darby, luncheon chairman. “There won’t be a bad seat in the house. You’ll be able to see all the models, and we will have local men as servers as we do each year.”

Catering will be done by Thyme and Elegance Catering, and all centerpieces will be available for purchase through silent auction, as they are all hand-made by Leslie Byrd, pastor of Kerens First United Methodist Church and Pleasant Grove Methodist Church.

“People will arrive around 11:30 a.m. and we will have silent auction items, along with appetizers and tea, then you and/or your group can have photos done with Joan Rivers,” Dieterichs said. “Please arrive early to have those photos done, so you may pick up your complimentary photo at the end of the luncheon.”

VOICE (Viable Options In Community Endeavors) was founded by the late Lois Jean Hart, and seeks “to empower children and families to lead healthy and productive lives by promoting success in education, nurturing wellness in mind and body, and developing skills in tomorrow’s global leaders.”

They offer programs in Navarro, McLennan, Henderson, Freestone, Limestone, Falls, Bosque, Hill and Kaufman Counties, and have offices in Corsicana, Athens and Waco. For more information on programs, see www.voiceinc.org.

Underwriters for this event are C.L. Brown III, Mr. and Mrs. Bryan Ruez, Navarro Regional Hospital, Texas Bank Mortgage and Corsicana Kiwanis Club. A party the night before for the models, underwriters and merchants will be hosted by Suzanne Plyer (of Thyme and Elegance), Lynda Sloan, executive director of VOICE, and Jimmy Hale.

Luncheon committee members include Dieterichs, Darby, Plyer, Byrd and Paula Butler, Sue Lagomarsino and Amanda Melton.

“It will be a fun way to spend lunch and help a deserving organization,” Darby said.
