Corsicana — Harmony Baptist Church, 400 East 12th Ave., Corsicana will hold an appreciation service for its musicians at 8 p.m. Friday, May 17, 2013. This is the 14th year the church has honored Patrick Colbert, Organist/Bass Guitarist; Brandon Gooden, Lead Guitarist; and Christopher Meankins, Drummer/Percussionist.  This is the third year Jazzton Williams, Bass Guitarist, will be honored. All of the musicians grew up in this church and their musical talents are a real blessing to the congregation. All musicians, soloists, and choirs are invited to share in this special occasion.  Please come by and show your love and support. Bishop John Baker is pastor, Minister Vanessa Baker is sponsor and Minister Chasity Portis is minister of music.

Faith Lutheran Church, (3824 W Hwy 22), will hold a Springfest from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, May 18. This spring sale will feature new and used items, such as used furniture, lap quilts, kitchen items, plants, electronics, crafts, bedroom items, baby items, decorating items, books, and will have a bake sale with all kinds of goodies. There will be a prize drawing for either a queen size quilt, crocheted afghan or ladies coat. Tickets are $1 each or six for $5. Drawing will be at 2 p.m., you do not have to be present to win.

Love Chapel Baptist Church located at 400 North Benton Street where David E. Wilson serves as Pastor and Sharron D. Wilson serves as Minister will have Revival Services  May 21 -23, 2013 at 7 p.m. nightly. The theme will be “Getting Back To Basics” from the scripture text I Peter 2:9-10. Guest speakers are the Mothers Of Zion featuring  Evangelist Mary Jo Dixon of the Greater Love Outreach Fellowship Church, Bishop William Lewis, Jr., Pastor; Bishop Annell Haney Pastor of The Church Of The Living God (Malakoff) and Minister Florine Hubbard of the Macedonia Baptist Church, Pastor Joe D. Hubbard, Sr.  You do not want to miss hearing these seasoned Women of God Preach the Gospel with Power and Authority.  Please come  and be blessed.   • YMCA warns against woman fraudulently soliciting funds

    A woman has been soliciting funds, falsely portraying herself as representing the YMCA, Executive Director Terry Seth reported late Wednesday afternoon. A business owner in town informed Seth a lady solicited his business, saying she was raising money for the YMCA for a program for deaf children. Seth says the YMCA does not have such a program.

  • Wine and walking

    About a dozen local businesses are opening their doors for the Derrick Days Wine and Cheese stroll this year, and many are only doing it as an open house opportunity.

    The stroll is scheduled for 5 to 7 p.m. April 24 in downtown Corsicana. It's free and open to the public.

A year after that deadly blast, the city will stop to remember that fateful day and pay tribute to those who were lost, including Navarro County firefighter Perry Calvin, one of the first responders killed by the blast.

  • Navarro College seeks public input at Town Hall event

    Community perception of the role Navarro College plays, and how it can better serve Corsicana and Navarro County is the goal of a Town Hall meeting called at the college for Monday, April 21. The town hall presentation will run from 6 to 7:30 p.m. in the Dr. Richard M. Sanchez Library on the Corsicana campus.

    After the hail storm Monday, the Corsicana Police Department began receiving several calls from citizens reporting roofing contractors going door to door soliciting to inspect and repair roofs from possible hail damage.
