Evacuations, closures from Ellis County pipeline blast

Corsicana — A gas pipeline explosion in Ellis County near Milford has prompted several road closures and evacuations following the 10 a.m. blast Thursday morning.

Fox 4 News is reporting that the town of Milford has been evacuated as a result of the blast, reported in the vicinity of Highway 77 and FM 308.

TxDOT has closed Highway 77 in the vicinity of the blast site in southwest Ellis County; FM 308 from Highway 22 in Hill County to Milford; and the Milford exits of I-35E have been closed.

There have been no immediate reports of any injuries, and a cause has not been reported.

U.S. Rep. Joe Barton (R-Ennis) issued the following statement from his office regarding the blast:

“I want to applaud the quick action of the first responders who are working to protect residents and save lives. I have spoken to Ellis County Sheriff Johnny Brown and offered to help in any way possible. I am monitoring the situation from my office in Washington and have dispatched a member of my staff to the command post near the site. I stand ready to assist at the federal level if and when it is necessary.”

We will continue to monitor and update as we learn more.
