Quick action Saturday by a Good Samaritan and first-responders helped save a Corsicana woman from a near-drowning at Lake Halbert Park.
Corsicana Police were responding to calls of a disturbance at the park at about 3:30 p.m. Saturday when another call reporting a possible drowning was received.
The victim, identified by Corsicana Police as Rebecca Watkins of Corsicana, had been pulled from the water and was receiving CPR from a member of the party she was with.
Police helped clear water from Watkins’ lungs until Corsicana EMS arrived. Watkins was then transported by air ambulance to Parkland Hospital, where she was said to be in “stable” condition Monday.
Police Chief Randy Bratton credited the quick action of bystanders and first responders in helping to save the woman.
Police issued three citations for city ordinance violations while at the park, a result of the original disturbance call.
