A fracking well that has collapsed and is leaking fluid has area emergency responders on site Thursday morning assessing the situation.
Eric Meyers, Navarro County emergency management coordinator, said contractors notified emergency personnel of the collapse early Thursday morning.
The well is located about 1/2 mile off of South U.S. Highway 287 on SECR 3100.
Several fire departments have converged near the scene to prepare a response should a blow-out occur before the well can be capped.
Meyers said a crew from Houston had been dispatched to cap the well. The well is leaking about 3 to 4 gallons of fluid per minute.
Authorities are assessing an area of about a 1/2 to 3/4 mile around the well site, in an event an evacuation is required. No evacuation has been ordered as of 9 a.m.
Daily Sun photographer Ron Farmer reports crews from Halliburton, and a Texas Railroad Commission vehicle has arrived at the site.
Access to the immediate area has been restricted due to the well collapse.
