SWAT assists in Task Force felony arrest

Corsicana — The Navarro County Sheriff’s Office S.W.A.T. tactical team was called into service Thursday to assist in a felony drug arrest.

Law officers moved into place about 3:30 p.m. Thursday. The county’s tactical unit assisted officers and deputies of the Navarro County Joint Narcotics Task Force in what Sheriff Elmer Tanner called a “high risk search warrant” in the 1400 block of West Fifth Avenue.

One suspect was apprehended in the operation, and officers seized methamphetamine, marijuana and several prescription pills as they executed the search warrant. The suspect — who has a previous felony conviction — also had a loaded pistol in his possession — information that Task Force officers had developed prior to executing the warrant.

“That’s the reason we used the S.W.A.T. team — based on his criminal record and information that he was in possession of a loaded firearm,” Tanner said.

After the suspect was taken into custody, he complained of feeling ill, and was transported to Navarro Regional Hospital for medical evaluation, Tanner said.

“I’m very proud of the officers involved in the investigation,” Tanner said. “Obviously, the Task Force did a good job in developing information on this individual who was selling drugs in a drug-free zone.”

Tanner said once the suspect was cleared by medical personnel, he was transported to the Navarro County Jail, and is expected to face arraignment Friday.

The Daily Sun generally does not identify individuals that have been arrested until they have been arraigned.
