Corsicana — The costs and arrangements for shared services between the city and county will be the topics of discussion at a meeting of city and county leaders Monday afternoon.

The Corsicana City Council and the Navarro County Commissioners Court are scheduled to hold a joint workshop at 1 p.m. Monday in the basement conference room of the Navarro County Courthouse.

County government compensates the city of Corsicana for certain services provided to county residents, including library, animal control, economic development services, the transport of mental and juvenile detainees by the county, fire department and fire investigation services, and ambulance service.

Additionally, under the terms of a long-standing contract between the city and county, Navarro County houses Class C prisoners arrested by the city of Corsicana’s police department.

The county pays half the costs associated with the salary and expenses of Bill King, economic development director; $30,000 annually for library services; $30,000 a year for animal services; $250 for each time a city fire truck responds to a county fire; $100 for fire calls that city responders are disregarded; and $50 per hour plus mileage for fire investigations.

Under the current budgets for both entities, county commissioners agreed to pay the city $275,000 for ambulance service. The city had requested $350,00, but council members voted Sept. 3, 2013, to accept the lower figure.

On Monday night’s city council agenda, an action item on the agenda calls for possible changes to the city’s agreement to provide ambulance service to the county.

Mayor Chuck McClanahan said the city has asked the county to consider changing the dates on the annual agreement for ambulance service to coincide with fiscal year for both entities, Oct. 1 through Sept. 30. The county has that request as an action item at its Monday morning meeting.
