Grounds wins Registered Heifer Division

Corsicana —

The numbers were down from last year but the competition was top notch in Thursday's Registered Heifer Division at the Youth Expo, as Noah Grounds captured Grand Champion honors.

Grounds, 15, added to his 2014 Youth Expo winnings by also taking the Grand Champion Award in Senior Showmanship in the division.

Animals are a big part of Grounds' life. He's been showing animals since he was 8-years-old, he said, working mainly with cows, although his family does have horses also.

“I've been doing it since I was little, and I love it,” he said of working with animals.

The home-schooled member of Blooming Grove/Barry 4-H had angus heifers in the show win first, second and fourth place in the British Breeds Division of the judging, including a Best of Breed.

Reserve Champion honors in the Registered Heifer Division went to Logan Peterson of Blooming Grove/Barry 4-H. His summer heifer entry in the Brahman Breeds Division also won its class and division.

Complete Senior Showmanship: Grand Champion, Noah Grounds, Blooming Grove/Barry 4-H; Reserve Champion, Conner Knauth, Mildred 4-H; third place, Emily Stovall, Emhouse 4-H.

In Junior Showmanship: Grand Champion, Madison Peterson, Blooming Grove/Barry 4-H; Reserve Champion, Joe Mac Weil, Frost FFA. (No third place.)
