Corsicana — The 100 Club of Navarro County honored three Corsicana Police officers Thursday, naming them “Officers of the Year” at the club's annual banquet.

Cpl. Scott Tidwell and Officers Allen Crawford and Michael Self were recognized for their actions on June 1, 2013 when the three faced fire from a lone gunman who eventually committed suicide.

The three officers responded to that late night call reporting that the individual had fired shots from a handgun and had been threatening suicide. When the officers arrived, the individual displayed a weapon and fired at Tidwell, nearly striking him. The officers returned fire as the suspect them shot himself.

Tidwell is a 14 year veteran of the department. Crawford has four years of service with CPD, while Self has been on duty for two years.

Also honored at the 100 Club event were two original board members of the organization who are stepping down from the board. Jim Acker and Bill Stoner were presented with plaques of appreciation for their support of the organization.

Allison Tanner, daughter of Navarro County Sheriff Elmer Tanner, was awarded a $500 scholarship by the 100 Club — one of the support functions the group provides to law enforcement members and their families. Tanner is a sophomore at Tarleton State University in Stephenville, studying Kinesiology.
