June 7

Pickett Riding Club is ready to ride. Come out to the Streetman arena on FM 416 starting at 11 a.m. Events are Cloverleaf Barrels, Straightaway Barrels, Poles, Speed, Flag, Potato and Keyhole. Exhibitions are $3, events are $5, and there is a $25 membership per family if you would like to join Pickett Riding Club. Age groups will be 6 and under, 7-9, 10-12, 13-17, and 18 and over. The American Legion, Post 22, 632 N. Beaton St., will hold its monthly meeting at 1:30 p.m. at the post. All members and prospective members are invited to attend. For further information call 903-874-3938 after 2 p.m. The American Legion Auxiliary will also hold a Garage Sale from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Funds are used to support veterans, active military and their families.



The Central Texas Challenger League has started sign-ups and player and volunteers forms can be picked up this week, and registration will be taken through the practice date. There will be no cost to participate. Practice will be held at the softball field at 8:30 a.m at the Kerens High School Softball Field off of State Highway 309, south of State Highway 31. The two-game season will take place over two Saturdays, June 14 and 21, at 8:30 a.m. each morning at the field. The baseball league is for boys and girls 8 to 18 (or still in school) from Navarro, Henderson and Freestone counties with mental or physical handicaps. Application forms can be picked up at area schools through special education teachers, or at Innovative Therapies, Custom T’s or the Corsicana Daily Sun. Mary Peterson Child Care Center is currently selling $5 raffle tickets for a $100 gas card. Drawing will be held on June 7 at the center. On that same day a barbecue lunch plates will be sold. Menu: Brisket sandwiches, Link Sandwiches, chips and drinks. Come on out to help support Mary Peterson in our endeavor for a new building.



A reunion of members of the Corsicana High School and YMCA Swim Teams is scheduled for 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the Optimist Room of the Corsicana Y. All former members are asked to attend the reunion, and bring along old photos or yearbooks to share. For more information, call the Corsicana Y at 903-872-2412.



June 8

Midway Cemetery in Winkler will have its memorial services and lunch. Church service followed by a short business meeting will begin at 11 a.m., with lunch to follow. Please bring a covered dish, utensils and drinks will be provided. Donations are payable to Midway Cemetery.



June 9

Woodmen of the World Chapter 5 will have its meeting on June 9, 2014, at 6 p.m. in the Chapter Hall at 200 W. Oak Lawn. All members, their families and guests are cordially invited.



June 10

The Corsicana Emergency Corps., located at 416 South 12th Street in Corsicana, will hold its regularly scheduled monthly meeting at 7 p.m. The general public is invited to attend.  Monthly meetings are held on the second Tuesday of each month at 7 p.m.  For further information, please call 903-872-5072.



Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 1009 will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday, June 10, 2014 at the Sirloin Stockade, 2508 West Seventh Ave, Corsicana. Membership is open to U.S. armed forces veterans who served on active duty (for other than training purposes) in the Republic of Vietnam between Feb. 28,1961 and May 7,1975, or in ANY duty location between Aug. 5,1964 and May 7,1975. The veteran must submit a copy of his/her DD Form 214 along with the application and dues. Members and guest are invited to come early and eat and visit prior to the meeting.

Cedar Lake Home Health and Hospice is sponsoring a Grief Support Group at noon at its Corsicana office at 625 North Main Street. Those who attend may bring a guest. Please RSVP by June 6 by calling 903-874-2646.



The Alpha Rho Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma will host the June 11, 2014 program at Kinsloe House. The chapter serves as a committee to plan and provide the decorations and program for that day. Dr. Michael O’Neill , CEO and Medical Physicist at Corsicana Cancer Center will provide an informative power point presentation about Corsicana’s new cancer center and what it has to offer the citizens of the area. Angels of Corsicana Troop Support will be holding its monthly troop packing at 9 a.m. at 1020 North Business 45. Please bring any military addresses of those serving in harm’s way to the packing. Navarro County Genealogical Society will hold its quarterly meeting at 10 a.m. in the Nancy Roberts Community Meeting Room at the Corsicana Public Library. Ed Williams will be speaking on “Collecting Corsicana.” The public is invited to attend. There is no charge.

 

Providence Cemetery Association will hold its annual meeting at 11 a.m. with a covered dish picnic lunch and business meeting. Guest speaker will be glenn Benefield. If you are unable to attend, mail contributions to Providence Cemetery Association, 2000 FM 637, Corsicana, TX 75109.

Cars of Navarro County will hold a Car Show at Seventh and Beaton, in conjunction with the City of Corsicana’s Second Saturday event. Registration will be from 5 to 6 p.m. and proceeds will go to the Navarro County Food Pantry. Many trophies will be awarded, if you have a car, bike, truck, hot rod, muscle car, project car, whatever, bring it and show it off.



Emhouse 4-H Fundraiser will be a vet clinic held from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Emhouse Community Center. Please bring your dogs, cats, and horses to this fundraiser for EMhouse 4-H. Prices are very reasonable. For more information call (903) 354-6775.



The City of Corsicana continues its Second Saturday Series with more great musical entertainment. From 5 to 8 p.m. T-Bone Stearns and Jughead will  perform in Pocket Park, 118 N. Beaton Street. Bring your lawn chairs and come join us for a great time. There will also be live entertainment featured at The Remington and Corsicana Opry as well. When Are We Going Home Ministry has chosen to have its Champions Day at Hawaiian Falls in Mansfield. On this day, families with special needs children may get in the park with the child free and $5 for the other person. Beck Animal Hospital and Mildred Eagle Cheerleaders will sponsor a Low Cost Vaccination Clinic at MISD on June 21st from 9 a.m. to 12 noon.

A Senior Sock Hop will take place from 6 to 8 p.m. at The Cook Center. This is a free event for any seniors 50 and up and a chaperone. Corsicana Swing Orchestra will play hits from the 50s and 60s. There will be refreshments and a costume contest, so break out the leather jackets and poodle skirts. There will be door prizes, also. You must have a ticket since seating is limited. July 4

Kerens Chamber of Commerce will host its 20th Annual Old Fashioned Fourth of July with a downtown celebration beginning at 6:30 p.m. There will be a bicycle parade, so bring your decorated bikes and meet in front of the baseball field at 6:15 p.m. There will be a cake walk, train rides, sack races, washer pitching, bounce house, bingo, live music, egg toss, water games, and an Ice Cream “Churn Off.” Prizes will be awarded for the top three placings. Also available will be hot dog dinners, snowcones, watermelon and ice cream. Makes plans now to attend.



July 5

Piecemakers’ Quilt Guild of Corsicana will meet at the Church of Christ Fellowship Hall, 3400 Highway 22, Corsicana, Texas. Meeting begins at 9:30 a.m. for refreshments and fellowship. Business meeting will start at 10 a.m. Following the meeting there will be a Christmas in July demo and workshop presented by one of the members.  The project for this meeting is a cute Santa Block. To see a sample of the Santa Block, go to the June Show and Tell page of the website. Bring your sewing machine and a sack lunch. This will be a fun and educational meeting if you are interested in learning more about quilting. Visitors are always welcome. The American Legion, Post 22, 632 N. Beaton St., will a BBQ and CASI Chili Cook Off starting at 8 a.m.. at the post. The BBQ contest will include brisket, pork ribs, local chili and beans with trophies awarded for the best tasting entries.
