The annual opening of Corsicana’s public pools will be June 5 for Jester Park Pool, and June 6 for the Bunert Park Pool.
The openings will be heralded by a Pool Jam, complete with music provided by DJ Slicky D.
This week, the city is preparing the pools for the opening, according to Sharla Allen, parks director.
“The lifeguards are busy at this time getting the pools ready, cleaning the systems and getting everything organized for June 5 for Jester and June 6 for Bunert,” Allen said. “It’s definitely an exciting time for us.”
Among those chores is filling both pools with water. Jester holds 265,000 gallons of water, while Bunert holds 68,000 gallons.
“It’s a traditional treatment, with chlorine and acid,” Allen said. “And we treat the pools daily.”
Jester has new diving boards, but other than that will be the same as in years past.
Bunert will be closed on Sundays this summer, since there was low attendance on Sundays last year.
Attendance at the smaller pool is much lower than at Jester, although Bunert has a spray park attached to it, and Jester does not. Just over 2,300 people paid to enter Jester Park Pool last summer. During that same time period, 348 went to the Bunert Pool.
The lastly day of the pool season is Aug. 17. The Pooch Paddle, which is a fundraiser for a local pet charity when dogs are allowed to swim in the pools before they’re drained for the season, will be Aug. 18.
Both pools are also available to be rented out for morning and evening parties. The cost to rent Bunert is $50; while the cost to rent Jester is $100, or $125 for parties of more than 75 people. Swimming lessons are offered at Jester for $25 per person.
Last year, between the entrance fees and pool party rentals, the pools raised $7,000.
