Blood Drive Tuesday

Did you know that every 90 seconds, someone in North, Central or East Texas needs blood? There is no substitute for human blood, which is why each volunteer blood donor is vital to the health of the community.

Carter BloodCare is teaming up with Heritage Oaks Retirement Village to help fulfill the mission of having the right blood type on the shelves, at the right time, for any patient in our community that needs it. Donating blood helps achieve this, and saves lives in the process. The blood drive will be held from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday, June 17 inside the Formal Lobby Room located at 3002 W. Second Avenue. For more information or to make an appointment, call Sue Bowling at (903) 872-5130.

During the summer months, it’s extra important to remember to give blood. With schools out for the summer and families out on vacation, the number of blood donors tends to decrease, while demand for blood due to increased activities and thus, accidents, can increase. Help maintain a safe and sufficient blood supply this summer.

Potential blood donors may volunteer beginning at age 16 with parental consent; 17-year-olds may give independently and there is no upper age limit for giving blood. All donors must weigh at least 110 pounds, feel well on the day of donation and present a government-issued photo ID each time they give blood. It’s also a good idea to eat a nutritious meal and drink plenty of water before giving blood. For more information on donor eligibility and to make an appointment, call 1-800-366-2834 or visit carterbloodcare.org.
