The renovation of the Corsicana Police Department got a bit more involved than it was originally intended to. An error with some concrete resulted in water flooding city hall, and forcing replacement of carpeting and flooring. As well, the renovations quickly led to renovations of the municipal court, as well.
So, the open house originally scheduled for February kept getting moved back, but it will finally take place from 4 to 5 p.m. Tuesday. Tours of the newly remodeled facility will begin in the lobby of the police department. The entrance is on the Fifth Avenue side of the Government Center, 200 N. 12th St.
In addition to a new lobby, with heightened security, the renovations included turning the former sally port into a meeting room for patrol officers, new computer space for officers to write their reports in, and new offices for the supervisors. The new municipal court space includes more storage for files, and turning two police offices into court space.
The new security measures include closing the police department off from the rest of the city hall except to people with special security key cards. In the past, people could walk into city hall by walking down a hall past the city manager’s office. Admission from the street was determined by dispatch from an inside office, but once inside, people could wander around inside the police department.
