Corsicana — Dec. 6

Thousands of holiday lights will illuminate historic Downtown Corsicana as the annual Downtown Open House & Lighting Celebration takes place from 5 to 6 p.m. The community is invited to join us at Pocket Park, 118 N. Beaton Street, for food, entertainment, and fireworks, as we light up the town. Many downtown businesses will remain open, and Santa will be there passing out treats. The A Capella Choir from Corsicana High School will perform, and from 3 to 5 p.m. that day, holiday photos with Santa will be offered in Pocket Park. This event is sponsored by the City of Corsicana Parks & Recreation and Main Street Program. For more information call (903) 654-4852.

The Navarro County Retired Teachers will meet Friday, Dec. 6 at Northwest Apartments Community Center, 1360 Northwest Ave. at 9:45 a.m. The program will be Christmas Music presented by Amy Knauth Cook and Patty Knauth, vice president of RTA.

VFW Post 3366 invites all its members and guests out for an evening of karaoke with Country Sue’s Karaoke. Canteen opens at 4 p.m. and karaoke starts at 8 p.m. until closing. Come early to get a good seat! Admission is free! Call 903-872-3811 after 4 p.m. for more information.

 Dec. 7

Blooming Grove is having its Christmas parade and celebration beginning with the parade lineup at 10:30 a.m. The theme is an "Old Fashioned Western Christmas."  The parade line up is at the high school parking lot. The parade goes through downtown starting at 11 a.m. Park activities will follow including food booths, pictures with Santa, a silent auction and bake sale, carolers and other entertainment, door prizes, and a Santa look alike contest. Angels of Corsicana Troop Support will meet at 10 a.m. at the American Legion, 624 N. Beaton, to help pack Christmas stockings for approximately 325 military personnel. There will be a free lunch provided by the American Legion Auxiliary immediately following the packing. All are welcome, including little ones. Donations are being received until Dec. 7 at the American Legion Hall between 8 and 10:30 a.m. Monday through Saturday. For more information, contact Jean O’Connor at 903-851-2560.
